As Scouts work toward their advancement requirements, they should track their progress in their Scout handbook along with any related merit badge workbooks or related handouts.
Periodically throughout the rank, parents and Scout Leaders should help update Scoutbook with interim progress updates. This informs the PLC as they plan meetings and outings. Additionally, this maintains an official electronic record of the accomplishments and provides a backup should the paper book ever be damaged or lost.
Once a Scout has completed their rank requirements, the next step is to meet for a “Scoutmaster Conference”. This allows the Scoutmaster to review:
- a Scout’s growth in their understanding of Scouting’s ideals
- how the Scout applies these ideals in their daily life and in the troop
- the requirements of the Scout’s next rank so that they can be properly encouraged
