Why Uniforms Matter
Uniforms in Scouts BSA serve several important purposes:
- Create a sense of unity and belonging, minimizing differences between Scouts
- Demonstrate membership in a worldwide youth organization
- Display a Scout’s achievements and awards
- Represent a personal commitment to Scouting principles
- Create a positive image of Scouts in the community
The uniform helps Scouts feel part of something larger than themselves, while also providing a way to showcase their individual accomplishments and dedication to the Scouting movement.
Troop 332 Field Uniform
What is a Field Uniform?
Sometimes referred to as “Class A“, the Field Uniform is the formal uniform worn by a Scout or Scout Leader.
What does Troop 332 Consider a Complete Field Uniform?
- Shirt: The official tan uniform shirt (short or long sleeve). Should be tucked in
- Neckerchief: The Troop 332 neckerchief is preferred. Scouts receive this when they crossover.
- Camping Beads: Necklace with buckeye nut emblem and a bead representing each camping trip attended. Scouts receive these at the Court of Honor following their first campout.
- Pants or Shorts: Troop 332 does not require official Scout pants. We prefer bottoms that coordinate with a uniform, such as green slacks/shorts, khakis, hiking pants, or jeans. Bright athletic bottoms are discouraged
- Note: Some formal events may require Scout Pants/Shorts or similar.
- Footwear: Closed toe shoes required at all Scouting functions
- Belt: Green or leather belt (optional)
- OA Sash: To be worn at OA functions or Court of Honors. Awarded once elected into the Order of the Arrow and complete their Ordeal.
When Should I Wear My Field Uniform:
Troop 332 requests Scouts to wear their field uniforms to all Troop meetings and most Troop events between the September and June Court of Honor awards banquets. Additionally, Scouts should always wear Field Uniforms for formal events, rank advancement, and special occasions
